DFW Texans beware...

DFW Texans beware...
Went back home after about a mile into the trip from Plano to Ikea frisco, where I work. It was insane out there... Cars skidding all over the place, and I was in 3rd gear, 1000rpm... and fishtailing up a hill not once but twice. Sanity before pride...
But I am still mad at myself for turning back. I hate to let my manager down, especially since I know I wasn't the only one not going to work because of the roads here. At least I attempted, I had to experience how bad the icy roads where first hand to make a solid and proper decision. I go to work, unless it is really too dangerous out there. And this, these icy roads... are too dangerous for a mustang to travel on.
I refuse to become a statistic. I did saw a wrx do a 4 wheel drift. Nice going, but go a little to far with that and even your 4wd won't help you.

I'm so friggin glad we left Texas last June, lol. Talk about a place I'll never miss. I lived in Frisco way up north near Eldorado for 2 years. I drove to work a few times on those icy roads and people there are just retarded driving in those conditions. I saw a lady in a BMW talking on the cell phone going about 50mph on ice slide into a railing on a bridge. The car looked totalled to me. The RWD F-150 I had at the time did pretty well actually, but probably because its flat there, and that thing was heavy too. Luckily most people stayed home those days, which left the roads nice and clear for me, lol.

I lived in Roanoke in Denton County Texas for a couple years.....back in 2003 I was snowed in for 5 days....couldn't get to work, store or anywhere! There are no plows or sanding trucks....it sucks when it snows in Texas!! That is a rare occurrence! One good thing is that it is usually in the 50s during the winter and the tracks close only in Dec & Jan!

I took the 'stang out tonight to see how it would do. Wasn't bad at all, what with traction control and the stick. Once I figured out what it wanted, actually handled better than my '97 F250 2wd w/open diff. Of course, I grew up with rwd cars in central Wisconsin--once I remind myself, I do know how to drive in this--unlike the natives!!

jw2010: Wednesday I did make it into work, and I can tell you the mustang is a way better setup than all those rwd trucks out there. I had to turn into another street to avoid mister "I'll fishtail every 2 seconds" in his chevy truck. No weight on that rear axle, we actually have a way better weight distribution.
Seems there is snow on the way yet again... Which is better than the ice we had... Too bad the ice is mostly gone in the grooves where your tires sit, so this is again annoying. Can't wait till I can put the hammer down again.

From my Nacogdoches - DFW field trip taken last year in the ice/snow, I can honestly say, for some reason Texans seem to be fearless (read: reckless) in winter conditions. That's spoken as a born Houstonian and resident of both Houston and Nacodoches btw lol
