Unhappy HELP!! What is this!?

Hey guys. Every time I'm NOT running the A/C there's a loud pop whenever I accelerate or brake. If I have the A/C ON, there's no pop UNTIL I park and shut the car off, then it mockingly gives me one good one... I've been dealing with this for four months. I've looked all over and all I ever find is what goes on when the A/C is active, so if anyone can point me in the right direction it would be greatly appreciated.

Forgot to mention in case anyone didn't notice, 2006 GT/Auto. Thanks again.

Do you mean an exhaust pop or something else?

Sorry I was vague. Its a pop coming from under the hood. at first I thought it was something to do with the brakes, suspension, or wheel bearings, since it happened during breaking and accelerating, (weight shift), but I noticed it didn't happen with the AC on. so I've narrowed it down to that. I've found one other thread on another forum from six years ago and everyone thought it was the AC doing its normal thing, but it happens when the AC is OFF.

Bizzar is what that is....so let me make a bizzar suggestion. Check the tentioner on the idler pulley, perhaps it is weak and or sticking as it sees different loads with acceleration/deceleration and AC on/off and then snapping back making a popping noise. I had an pickup that would make a similar noise because of the tensioner and narrowed it down by taking the belt off and running it a short distance with no noise. Remember I said it was a bizzar suggestion
