Default I'm dumb..

Go ahead and say it.

I made a rookie mistake and left my gas cap on my trunk without noticing it and then it flew off sometime driving.

The question is, should I spend $35 for the Ford one or $11 for a cheap Pep Boys one? Is there really any difference?

I feel so stupid.

You have an opportunity to get one that locks or has a Ford logo on it at one of our vendors IIRC...

The above was what I had in mind, but I did not see them for the 05+ Mustangs.

I would order one online, however I need to buy one tonight since I need to drive it tomorrow.

Pep Boys....its just a gas cap. Have one on my '95 and it does the job.

BTW, don't feel bad, everybody's done it.

I agree, PepBoys or equivalent.

I was expecting to see something about how you ruined something. Be glad you only have to replace a benign part as opposed to do dent removal, repaint, chase a loose part in a cylinder, etc...

How could you leave the cap on the trunk? They're tethered to the cover.

Well it was the stock gas cap, but the previous owner somehow lost the screw which kept it tethered down. I just never reattached it.

By the way, I purchased the Stant $11 one from Pep Boys and so far no problems. I'm still a little unsure of it though.

What about the Stant InStant Fill? Have any of you guys dealt with that product?
