97,000 miles, swapping out clutch & maybe gears?
my 2005 manual GT has a bit over 97,000 miles (i know) but still drives like a champ!!! Motor is real strong just the clutch has been acting up.
for like 1-3 days when shifting at high rpms from 1-2, 2-3 the car would grind and almost not want to go in. THAT WENT AWAY... now the car drives fine but when in nuetral after driving above 40 the car chatters/ticks. BUT will go away as soon as i push the clutch in... most people say it is just the clutch that needs to be replaced so i was wondering which clutch is the best to get for a daily driver with just an intake, tune, and long tube headers in the next month or so??? I heard spec stage 3 is good but have read mixed reviews. i want something good that will last but with a decent price tag. my budget is under 500...& my mechanic is charging me 275 to change the clutch & should i get the 4.10 gears at once??? & is there a way to check if the synchros are good with just changing the clutch? http://i808.photobucket.com/albums/z...81/gtbeast.jpg |
and do i NEED a new flywheel or can my mechanic just adjust that???
will an aftermarker clutch from AM or another website come with everything i need to change the clutch? |
well i guess im just getting a stock oem clutch replacement ....
i also bought jba long tubes today with the catted h pipe... having them installed monday...lets see the damage they do. |
Sorry I don't have any advice on the matter, but I'm curios since you still have stock trans and diff, do you still have the stock fluids in these? I know Ford says the manual transfer and diff are "lifetime fluids" but after draining both of mine at 35k, I highly disagree.

yes i do :(
im changing them sometime this week or next though..i was first told it could be harmful to the car but now that just seems ridiculous and have asked many mechanics/mustang owners since then and they highly reccomended it. did you feel a difference? |
A difference, no, but once you see how your differential fluid looks, you'll be happy you're changing it. Mine at 35k looked like dirty diesel oil with considerable metal flake, so I guess the break in period was pretty rough on the fluid. Put new 75-140 Amsoil in it and their friction addative and now looks like fresh honey :)
The manual trans wasn't very bad at all at 35k, but considering how easy it is to change and ATF is cheap, it got some new Amsoil as well. |
