Need some Mustang advice
Hey everyone, I joined the forum because I need some purchasing advice-
2005 Mustang Gt Premium in Sonic Blue with black interior and a manual trans with 126k miles for $10,000 from a dealer.
To me it seems a little high for the mileage but in Florida Gt's must be made with gold parts. This is by far the cheapest 05+ I have seen and 99-04's aren't alot cheaper. I know it depends on how it was driven and taken care of, but with 125k+ miles are Mustangs about dead or do they still have plenty of goody left?
Thanks for any feedback, new to the Mustang side of things.

That is quite a few miles, but I've heard that they do last quite awhile. It's really up to you. I just bought a 2007 GT manual in Sarasota with 9k miles for about $20k, so half price sounds reasonable.
Good luck.
Good luck.

I don't know about that one man. The $10,000 price point is nice, but 125k miles plus being an 05 makes you wonder how much their is left in the car without out of pocket repair expenses. I am sure someone with alittle more experience will chime in, but have you thought about looking out of state? I am in IL, and i seen 05,06,07,08 GT's with 30-60k miles anywhere from $15k-19k. It might be better for you if you were looking to do that.

I honestly think of every american car to be old by 100k. I havent kept any car, other than a chevy that was passed by my father a while ago, but its been rebuilt. so really not at 100k yet if you get what i mean. Mustangs will be driven by all types of people, typically like every car, the main point here is that it is a GT. normal people dont buy GT's. hence forth the 4.0 meaning in most cases its seen the share of "hard miles". I live in WA most 05GT's are going for around 15-18k, average 30-60k mi. I have yet to see one for sale with over 100k. I personally would say no, its been around alot, many people could have worked on it, it could have been a rental car with that many miles. Car fax is good but still leaves gaps, for instance. I change my oil on both mustangs in house. Sometimes when my wife is driving the 07 she will get the oil changed in shop, leaving car fax to make up a gap of 9k miles. so I would say the odds are agains you this time unless you plan to swap the engine, tranny, drive, the whole works. But good luck to you and make sure you set on the right mustang. I personally have been through a few.

i have never seen an s197 v8 with that many miles although i have seen many v6 with that high milage. im sure there is plenty of life left in it just depends on what route your going. dailey driving, track time, going full built, etc. i have tons of friends whose 2v 4.6 have well over 100K on the motor some with as high as 200K. but it all depends on you. i wouldnt get one with high milage simply because that a lot of milage for someone to neglet the maintaince on it. if your budget is ten grand try looking for a 2000-2004 mustang there are plenty of those with low milage.

If it's a dealer they should have a lot of room to move down on the price. Make sure to have it thoroughly checked out. But I think you should be able to get a very nice 2005 GT with a lot less miles for around $12,000, so I would hold out for a better one.

As much as 135k on the clock wouldn't bother me if it was a Toyota and although the domestics are getting better then they were a decade or 3 ago, I still grimace at the thought of a domestic with over 100k miles. I'd have to feel pretty confident that the compression and tranny are good amongst other things AND that they'd take maybe $9k just to give me some leeway in the event I DID need to shell out some $$ for near-term repairs.

I would never buy a street car with over 60k/mi
That being said, an exception would be made if the engine had been replaced/rebuilt recently by a good shop.
I have a 4 cylinder engine in my garage that has about 10k/mi on it. I'm thinking of buying a Miata at some point for a DD, and I'd more than happily go for one that has 200+k/mi. Not keeping the engine anyhow.
