Tunes are specific to the PCM code and strategy (and the mods) used in that particular car. There is no "one size fits all" tune.

You can lock up a PCM by downloading the wrong tune. That is very expensive to fix at a dealer.

Oh, ok. So it would be more cost effective then to buy a new SCT tuner with free tunes? Do I get a shop to craft the tune, or does SCT make one based on the mods I tell them that I have?

If you purchase the SCT tuner, the tuning company will provide you with 3 custom tunes (specific to your car), which will be loaded on the tuner. You will need to select the type of custom tunes you prefer, according to the octane available in your area (87,89,91,93). The custom tunes will be specific to the mods on your car, hence they will need to know which CAI you have. All you do is plug the tuner to the ODBII port and upload the custom, according to the octane in your gas tank. Brenspeed and American Muscle are both very reputable companies! You can't go wrong with either one of them for your custom tunes. =-)

Okay, so when you order an SCT tuner online, you tell them what mods you have and they craft a tune for it, then send it to you? As opposed to them telling you to take it to an authorized shop that will dyno/analyze the car and tune it accordingly.

Yes, that is correct. They have their own tuning dept. and they will create the custom tunes specifically for your car at their facility. Once completed, they will ship the SCT tuner to you with the 3 custom tunes already pre-loaded on the tuner. Once you receive, all you need to do is plug into your ODBII port and follow the prompts.

Here's a quick video on how to load a custom tune.

Actually, there is. The canned tunes that come from SCT are an example but they typically are of lower performance than a good custom tune.

By the way, you might shop around a little and look at ebay for a used intake, if you're interested in going that route...I found a C&L Racer (which was the one I wanted) that just had a broken tab on the heat shield and needed the filter cleaned for half price on ebay. Definitely made me a happy camper! At the same time mine was up somebody else was selling one of the original JLT's for just a little under $200. There are deals to be had, just gotta dig around a little.

Here's the CAI & tuner I used. They work well.

Yeah, you can't really save a buck by getting a used tuner, unless you get a great deal and be damn sure it's unlocked.

You can't just download any tune, they are specific to your ecm code.
