Default Engine Warm-Up

So on my old 2000 GT, I use to wait and let the car warm up after if it had sat more then like 6 hours without moving. I felt that this 2-3 minute warm up was good for the car. The car had about 140k miles on it and I dont remember doing it until i started to feel a hesitation on acceleration when i just drove off right away after starting with no warm u at like 75K+ miles.

So on my new 06 GT, i have started to do this from the time i took it home from the dealership (10 miles total). I am wondering if this is even doing anything or am I wasting my time?

A minute or two is all give my car, I just want to get some heat into the valve springs and let the oil get a little warm and then I drive it easy till it's warm. However I never ever beat on it untill it's up to full temp.

yup 10-4 on that one I wait about 2-3 mins as well, keep in mind with the 4.6 and the motor design it takes a few seconds to get the oil back up top, so NEVER throttle it at all on start up!

Something else to ponder- the 4.6 aluminum block starts out with main bearing clearances about half of normal or so due to the all alluminum construction, including the bearing shells themselves. They don't get to proper size till at least 140 degrees! So i will never jump on my new GT till the needle shows some heat!

You can bet your behind that since BMW started limiting their engine RPMs based on engine temp that I've decided to do the same. I keep her under 3k until the temp is at normal operating temperature.

I try to let my car warm through one song or one commercial on the radio. Or atleast baby it until it is warm as well.

Hey Slak... Your list of mods is exactly what I will be getting here soon. How do you like it? how do your flows sound? Can you tell a difference in speed with your tune and mod?

Great advice and the main reason why you should stick with 5w20 oil.

I wit until the rpms drop to 1100. When its cold it seems to jump up high, and cmoe down slow.
Ever try moving this cars when cold? bucks like a horse! I dont make a habbit, but just pulling the car into the shop after its been sitting out all day and just using the clutch she dont like it. Or just backing out of the garage when cold so I dont wake up the house with the vibrations, shell buck some. They need this minute or so to wake up me thinks.

Im talking chicago cold, 30's or below. Not California cold 60's or below
