thanks for the replies......
i learned more about my grandfather after his death, since he never talked about war...
he served in the U.S. Army Air Force as a pilot in the 11th Bombard Squadron in the China Burma, India Theatre and WWII. He retired from the U.S. Air Force Reserve as a Major after 23 years!!!! In addition to this, he worked for South Carolina Steel Company for 38 years!!!!! Memorials may be made to ANY USO....God Bless the last few survivors of WWII. If it weren't for their efforts, we would be speaking German, and this forum would not exist(or life as we know it to be)..love you , PAPA

he was awarded the Iron Cross, which my father has displayed in a picture memorial with his many other "honors"....(he was a member of the Air Corps), the name Air Force did not come into effect until after the war......

Amen. My grandfather was a WWII Vet, a logistics officer. Seeing this thread makes me want to go pay him a visit right now. He's 88 years old, and it's starting to show, I'll be spending as much time as I can with him and learn from all his experiences.

+1 mc. Sometimes we forget to pay attention to the people we still have in our lives.
