Tremec told me to put in 3.17 quarts of Dex III. The original specs were for more fluid, but that is what causes the hard shifts into 2nd and third for some people.

The Tremec TR-3650 5 spd transmissiontakes regular Mercon. Fill it until it comes out the top hole.

If you mean to the brim... Call Tremec and ask. They have changed the spec to 3.17.

Don't use a synthetic in the 3650, over time it will eat the syncro materials. TTC (Tremec) specs 3.17 (3.0 liters) quarts of Dexron III/Mercon non-synthetic ATF. Dexron V will also work since Dex III is being phased out.

In the years that i've owned my mach and several oil changes, i've never had problems with RP synthetic.. I take it you have..

Nope, never had a problem with the RP stuff. I have their synthetic gear oil in my rear. What lead me to research this issue so much is the TSBs and 2nd and 3rd gear shift problems the pre-2004 3650s had. I emailed Tremec about synthetics and on of their master techs explained that because of the alloy that the syncros are made out of synthetics aren't suggested since they will cause pitting and softening of the syncro gears thus shortening their life. I figured I'd stick to what the service manual and the master techs said.
