Default resetting the speedometer?

My speedometer's off by like 2 mph (not really a big deal) but i was wondering if there's a way to reset it. I'm not sure if that trick with the odometer reset button does that (haven't tried it, only read up on it).

dont you have to have a tuner to do it with these cars.

You can with a tuner, but not sure why its off if you haven't done anything to it. How do you know its off?

I've checked it with a gps unit and also those speed limit signs that radar you and show your speed (not sure how accurate it is) but I'm generally travelling 2-3 mph slower than what's indicated on the speedometer at any speed. Also, at 2,000 rpm in 5th, shouldn't the needle point right at 70?

yes it should be right at 70, those signs are wrong, at least the ones here are about 3-5 mph faster than your actually going. GPS is accurate tho.

So what does turning on the car while holding the odometer reset button do? Is it some kind of diagnostic mode or something?

If you search, you might be able to find it. There is a diagnostic or something like that but only works on 99-00 Mustangs if my memory serves me...
