Default Mach 1 tuning question

I will be getting my 04 mach 1 later this week. I'm ordering an intake spacer from roy and it has K&N. I'm going to buy an x-pipe with hi-flow cats and some flowmaster catback. I own a diablo tuner, should I just put the diablo pred tune on the car or should I bring it to a shop and have them tune it specifically? The dyno shop here charges $75 an hour, any idea how much it would take to tune it?

I would have it dyno tuned. I would wait until you have at least all those mods on though.

I wouldn't use anything other than the tune that was made for the car. If the parameters were edited in the tune on your Predator for another car, I would wait until you found a reputable tuner to put your car on a dyno. The extra cash is worth it in power and safety.

Also, make sure you can find someone that tunes with Diablo. I honestly don't know anyone in my area that tunes with anything other than SCT, thus my Xcal2

Well I already own the tuner and it says that it is good fo 99-04 GT's 03-04' mach 1's and 99-01 cobra's as long as they have not been supercharged. I used the tune on my 04 GT that was wrecked and I thought it helped, but you guys say stay away from the performance tune that comes with the diablo handheld? Hmmm... I guess I could have a dyno tune and sell the handheld tuner since I won't need anything but the dyno tune. Also a set of 17" cobra rims and tired that are on the car I'll sell cause I have some black bullit rims that should look sweet.

Well you can use the generic canned "performance tune" with no problems. I only say avoid using a tune that has another car's modifications in mind (like a performance tune with modified parameters). You don't want a car with full bolt-on's tune on a nearly stock car. All sorts of problems can and normally will ensue. And you'll still need a handheld, it's just a matter of what your tuner uses.

With out a wide band o2 sensor to measure air fuel ratio and a data llogger which I have, it is point less to adjust the performance tune that diablo wrote.

I completely agree. I just have a few friends who feel confident in tuning their car by "feel," with one inparticular going to town editing the performance tune. I'm waiting for someone to break something soon..

I'm assuming you "unmarried" the tuner from your GT.

Once you get all of your mods on, take the car and the tuner to a reputable dyno shop that either specializes in Diablo tuning or knows their program very well and have them tune it.

It'll be the best $75 you spend on the car.
