suggest a 9 second tranny
Ok, My dad has finally taken an interest in modding his car (03 mach1). were going to let a shop do the vast majority of the work for us, and he is basically having me call all the shots because he doesnt know much about it.
Right now im looking at a DSS iron block 5.0, 5.3 or 5.4l w v4 heads. it will be low compression and running boost in excess of 15psi , and were looking for 600rwhp safely. probably biturbo or a D-series procharger because he wants to keep the shaker hood (albeit non-functional) basically, the car must look stock from the outside with the exception of wheels (unless you guys think i can put a KBB under that hood....)
I already know the 3650 wont take that much abuse, and the 8.8" rear is probably going to complain about it too.
so all I need to know is what tranny should I run to mate to a DSS modular block? since im poor im used to living within the confines of my stock tranny lol. so i dont know many aftermarket trannies. manual is preferred, but if we have to go auto/stall I could probably talk him into it.
also, will the 03 mach1 computer handle a motor like that? I hear sniper is getting pretty good to where aftermarket pcms arent really necessary. just wondering.
thanks guys.
p.s. before any newbs, noobs, or nubz decide to throw a bs flag on this build, take a look at our post counts. if mine > yours, shut your ***** mouth
if not, my dad is a neurosurgeon with a specific goal in mind. money isnt an option here.

Specter,
i would recommend a Navigator 4v motor it's got a BB stroke of 4.165" thus giving torque a plenty, but there are a couple options for stroker's too...i think there is a 6.36 stroker kit available now (i'll PM details if you want). as far a a tranny, i would recommend going with a 4r100 that is built with a stall ( builder will help you decide how high). the 4R100 is the heavy duty truck transmission and is pretty stout from the start, but if you build it right the first time i haven't heard of it breaking
AP will be in shortly im sure and can correct me if i am wrong on the transmissions

why go with a navigator motor when I can have him get a DSS long block fully forged with the 5.3 stroker or 5.4?
were talking some serious boost. I dont think we make a motor that will handle 20psi or so from the factory. Like i said, this doesnt need to be a budget build. its more of a point and click sort of thing. i just want to make sure we make this car strong enough to handle it. Ive already got a shop in mind for the build.
i was looking at the tko600, looks like we may go that route. any other suggestions are welcome. im looking for input here, ive been swayed from my original plans in the past.

ok. I just talked to him. Told him what we want (so far) is to do a DSS 5.4L super mod (1200hp rated) at about 8:1 cr. TKO600, and a 9". figured that would run in the 15-20k range (and... omg... he said "really? damn...... I figured it would be more...wtf?) Then we need a power adder, as I said its between a d-1sc or a biturbo setup (i dont know enough about turbos to say which ones, probably a t3/t4 and a larger one) so add 7k.
then we want to strengthen the chassis and suspension - 3-5k
install and tuning - no idea. well call it 3k.
the only thing I dont know is the head/cam choice. DSS gives the option of some nice aftermarket heads, and custom cam choices. we obviously want a forced induction cam.
We are in the Iowa area. I was going to talk to illinois dyno center to do the install and tuning, but does anyone know a good builder to talk to about a project like this so we can get the most out of our cams choice and other build options? aka, which power adder to use, head chamber sizes, all the nitty gritty things to maximize the build?
list some phone numbers!!!!

the 5.4l block is more than capable of handling 900rwhp, and if you want just a badass all out ***** to the wall ****. twin charge it

buy the Gt500 crate motor ~12-15k comes with everything you need, spend another 1-3k on the internals being forged, the crank is fine and you shouldn't be able to break it. then slap a hellion hellraiser kit with twin 67's on the bitch, and back that with the TKO 600 with maybe a .64 OD for 6th (AP help me out here with the options available for it).
For the rear end i would just build the 8.8" it's strong enough, weld the tubes moser 33 spline axles with a set of 3.27 gears. then dyno tune and watch the HP go over 1k
That is the car i want to build, but i don't have the 30k to do it...so sadly i can only bench build, and maybe help trouble shoot...it's my dream to one day build these engines.
But as you requested....http://forums.corral.net/forums/showthread.php?t=867886
that is Al Pappito...he is the fore most 5.4l 4v expert, and 1 of his customers is at 1400rwhp on the ford gt block. his own cobra is a 5.4l 4v making 59xrwhp N/A

so... i guess what is the problem with the DSS long block? just under 10k gets me the long block, with my choice of heads and cams and its supposedly rated to 1200hp. it sounds like were talking about the same build, only different sources for parts.
from what ive heard, DSS uses the same parts as pretty much anyone else. lemme check out ur link before i go too much further tho

They have a transmission that is good for 9 seconds. And they have longblocks that can hold 1200hp also. Twin turbo is the route that you want to go. You want something like T67 or a T88
