HELP!!! check engine light on
Last tuesday i picked up the mach 1. I have driven it everyday and it seems fine. Yesterday i was driving and noticed the service engine soon was lighten up in the dash! I just checked the troubleshooter and this is what it came up with.
Definition: Catalyst efficiency low bank 1&2
Explination: The oxygen sensor monitor the catalytic converters ability to store oxygen.
Probable Causes:1-Catalytic Converter defective (failure possibly due to #2,3,or 4)
2- Engine misfire or running condition
3- Large Vacume leak
4- Engine oil leakage into exhaust-valve guide seals, piston rings
The engine seems to be running the same (fine) as when i got the car, so i dont think the engines misfiring. There is no loud vacume noises coming from the engine so i don't think its a vacume leak. Also the oil pressure is fine, so i dont believe i have an oil leak. One thing is that the air filter box is not closed fully maybe this could account for anything?
My friend said it may be a defaulty 02 sesor. What do you guys think is this the broblem or am i ****ed? Also how much money and time is the repair and can i do it myself?
Thanks

I don't pretend to be a mechanical wizard but just a small suggestion. A simple start would be to disconnect the battery for a bit and see if the computer resets itself incase it's a faulty code. If not, close the airbox. Make sure gas cap is shut completely. Jack the front end up and check to see if one of your o2 sensors came loose. If none works after running it for a bit I'd say buying o2 sensors is a good cost effective start for the process of elimination. Good luck with it.

with it being an exhaust problem (most likely) take your buddy's advice, replace 02 sensors and the wires to them, and work our way forward. O2 sensors are easy to replace and a minimal cost. if the CATS are jacked which some were from the factory, just slap and after market exhaust on it
