I don't think it would sound bad. You would just be keeping the stock piping size.

spent the hour discussing cat back vs weld ins with a co worker, and reading on M1R and the muff are the restriction on exhaust for the mustangs, multiple members have dyno'd before and after catback/ weld in's the weld in showed an average gain of ~11-13rwhp and 8-12 rwtq where the cat back show a gain of 12-15rwhp and 10-16rwtq.
So not that big of a difference in power at least not enough to make 1/4 numbers improve until you start modding heavily. then the stock H was removed and replaced by O/r. both welds/ cat backs show gains of ~23-28rwhp (tuned) and about the same in torque, the torque was actually higher with the O/R H/X stock piping and the weld ins due to back pressure than it was with Cat back (2.5") O/R H/X

*now dyno's all vary so there is a margin of error. But it is the standing of Most M1R exhaust experts the the .25" increase helps minimally and most of that is not the size of the pipe, but rather the mandrel bends in the pipe being smoother giving the extra 1-3rwhp and 2-5rwtq

It would sound alright, I'm not a fan of the LM mufflers, especially if you eventually go to an O/R pipe.

Actually they are exactly the same as LM 1's except there is packing in the 2's.
