Default transmission/ rearend question

Hey, looked at an 04 mach 1 a minute ago and it had a kinda humming noise whenever you would let off the gas. Is that common or a problem? The car has 44k miles so...

Ok thanks for your input. Decided to buy it anyways even if it is a problem. Getting it on Tuesday since the banks are closed today

I agree with the above assessment, it's probably a gear whine. They don't necessarily have to be installed wrong to whine, some gears just whine more than others. Richmond gears can whine like a sumbitch, even if installed correctly!

Test drove again, I had it backward. Doesn't have aftermarket gears. When your in a too high of a gear at too low of a speed it does it. Stops when you push in the clutch. Best way i can describe it is if you have ever run a lathe in a machine shop. Makes a similar sound when the machine is just running. My dad thinks its the ring and pinion either having too much play or not enough. couldn't be too expensive to fix would it? I figure for 12.5k it is worth it what do you think? Has 44k miles, brand new 275/40/17 and 245/45/17 tires(2 sets), adjustable suspension( I cant remember what kind), k&n cai, Flowmaster cat-back.

Man, are you in for a world of fun. I'm sure you've done your research on the differences between it and your GT you just sold. It's your judgement as to if it's worth diving into the rear. If it's only doing it when you're in too high of a gear it may be worth leaving it alone. But only you would know how annoying it is to you. If you ask me, $12.5 is a great price. A big congrats to ya and be sure to post some pics.

if you do decide to get it and go diving into the rear you might as well just put some 4.10s in there while you are at it. you will not be disapointed but good luck what ever you decide
