Default Motor noise.

So i have this strange kind of rattle coming from the engine compartment. At first i thought it was my ragged trans, it was making all kinds of racket, but after i put the new one in, there is still some noise there. It happens at low rpm's under a very very light load, like 1800-2200ish rpm's or so, and as soon as i give it any gas it quits. Then i hear it again about 5k or so. It won't do it just reving, you have to be driving it. I've raised the hood and had someone rev it incase it might be an "accessory", but i can't hear anything. It does have the head tick, but the noise i hear is something different. Could the timing chain tensioners be wore out? The car runs fine, and has great power. Any ideas? I can try to take a vid so you can hear it if i need to.

Could be the timing tensioners, could be lifters, could be a lot of different things. A video would be helpful.

Man I feel like I might have the same kinda noise... Only happens to me at idle though, I think it sounds like a chain clanking noise so I thought the tensioner. When is a good time to do a full tune-up? Im at 48k miles...

If you figure it out let me know. I'm trying to problem solve my brothers 04 mach. It is a rattle that sounds like something loose at around 2k rpm's and then goes away. I have no idea unless something is loose, and no lift to check it out myself.

I haven't heard the sound since I posted so its fixed I guess. Mine sounded more like if you were to drag a bicycle chain across metal... Kinda like the chain on our cam gears??? Just a weird noise.

this came up locally, here's what we did to fix it.... rather my friend did

04 mach 1 ticking after switching to full synthetic M1...5w 20, so went to a 10w 30 synthetic and put some injector cleaner and 93 octane in it...went away and runs HARD!!

How long have you been running 10w-30 in it?

me i don't but he has been running it since he got it or maybe it was 10w 20...lemme check with him. we think it was the injectors were clogged and needed cleaning with and in need of thicker oil.

I beleive 10w 20 is what Ford recomends. I run Royal Purple full synthetic and it has a slight tick.
