Default DIY: Restore your headlights

Well I want to start off by saying the I went through 3 different pairs of headlights, 2 smoked and one black(just like the factory light) and all 3 ended up with moisture in them. I didn't want to bother restoring my lights since they are WAY past their prime but I was left with no choice and I did not want to buy $160 or $199 or whatever they cost on AM after this mess with the ones I bought. Well I finally gave up, got my money back and bought a Micromesh kit and decided to clean my stock lights a bit until I feel like spending the money for new ones. They didn't come out 100% but are around 80% better than before if they weren't so beat up to begin with it would've looked as good as new. Here are the results...

After..

I also decided to pull my hood stripe since it was peeling in a couple areas and I must say i should've done it earlier. I still have to buff it to get looking 100% but here it is...

Warm it up with a blowdryer and begin pulling slowly while a friend of yours continues working the blowdryer. After you're done, put some mineral spirit on a clean rag or cloth and work it in to remove the glue or stripe thats left over. Then clean that area of the car with soap and water thoroughly before the sun hits it. You will like the results, looks much better without that faded stripe.

Its comes with several grits (1500,1800,2400,3600,4000 and 6000). You start with the first and make your way to the last using plenty of water and changing direction (vertical or horizontal) everytime you change grits. The kit comes with a micro gloss which removes scratches, haziness and halos in plastic.

Wow, I just might have to pull my stripe too. Looks great! My headlights have so many nicks from rocks in them and are peeling as well so I will probly just replace them but I have a few other mechanical things to replace first

- Car is not for sale anymore lol, for those that cared/were disapointed when I said it was on craigslist. It was on for about a week and a half and I couldnt give it up...

Thats great man, you would've regret it. You should try this on your headlights, nothing to lose and they will look better, just do it with a buddy and have a couple beers.

I used a $25.00 3M kit on my Tahoe headlights and front yellow bar lights and they look like new. Amazing stuff I'd recommend to anyone.

You don't realize how the plastic hazing really limits your beam until you clean it up.
