Engine Oil Question
#2
If it is a dedicated track car i would say move to a 0w20 or the like...keeping the oil flowing at high rpms will prevent you from having a sooner than planned engine swap. If it is mostly street use just stick with the 5w20...remember the thicker the oil the higher the temperatures need to be to maintain a good flow rate.

You can't always go "thicker" on the oil unless the short block was built for it. Some of the stock clearances are too tight, so as you go thicker, sometimes the top end can starve for lube.
I would personally go with Amsoil for the increased film strength and better performance at increased internal temps.
The film strength of your lubricant gets more & more important as you add HP.

I read a convincing article by a Ford engineer stating that the reason 20 weight oil came about with no mechanical change to the engines was simply for the strict CAFE fuel mileage regulations for all of the manufacturers. There was no change in tolerances or anything like that. He also said, in so many words, that he STRONGLY recommended 5w30 for engines being run at the track. Full synthetic 5w30 is still a very thin oil. I used 5w30 because It wouldn't lose it's durability as quick and the motor ran like a top. The article is on M1R somewhere if you'd like to read it.
