(Both Tools for $100) - I have two essential tools you could use to eliminate guess work when trying to select custom wheel/offset and fitment.
Tool #1 - WheelWise™ Wheel Fitment Tool, Tire Fit Testing Size Measuring Mockup, 5-Lug (https://www.speedwaymotors.com) – New is $100.00
Tool #2 – Wheel Fitment Tool by Embrace Making (https://embracemaking.com/products/w...trucks). They have two models, one for cars and one for trucks, this one is for cars – New is $115
I had to widen the holes on both to fit the 5x114.3, Mustang GT bolt pattern, but it will fit many other bolt patterns too. The tools allow you to visualize the tire/wheels and figure out the right off-set and whether or not the new dimensions interfere with anything. Both products have YouTube videos you can view for reference. #1 tool is made out of heavy-duty metal (is somewhat heavy); #2 is hard plastic.

I am custom building two 18x11 wheels by Variant Wheels to be mounted on 315/40/18. I used Tool #1 to actually mount the tires (which I have on hand) to see how it will look on the Mustang. By them being mounted, I could get a visual of: where it could rub the suspension, and how far out it would stick off the fender. This video shows how the tool is used:
In the video, the narrator explains how to get backspacing and off-set using the tools...but, again, i am a visual person. So, as I went back and forth with Variant Wheels on the off set they proposed, I used Tool #2 to visually see it. This video explains how the tool is used:
Do you need both tools, some may say no, but I used them to compliment each other. Please let me know if you have any questions.
