cold air intake

KN did not say we needed too. I even called and emailed their tech support. I also will not ever use any type of chip or programmer on any of my cars. Thats just asking for computer problems. I have seen that countless times with a few of my friends and other guys on cruise night that could never get their car to run right after screwing the ECM up. I'll pass.
My other beef with these so called performance filters is that many of them really do not filter that well either. If this stuff is so great, then why don't the high end exotic cars come with them, or any cars for that matter.

I don't know what JLT is. Is the intake a true cold air intake or a hot air intake? If it is actually a cold air intake, I can believe that it does help. My opinion is that for the cost of those things they should deliver more than a few horse power. I don't think they are worth it.

You say you will "never use any chip or programmer on any of your cars"?? The tuner backs up your OEM rom, and saves it to your tuner's memory.
These intakes do add "more than a few horsepower". You need to couple the intake with a tuner to correct your fuel for the added air intake.
If your *that* hesitant on not using a tuner, you may not want to modify your vehicle AT ALL.
Applying performance modifications without properly tuning for your mods is asking for more trouble than not using a tuner at all.
Your "other beef" has a simple solution. These open filters can potentially suck up water. That's the last thing a person, or manufacturer needs. A hydro-locked Porsche CGT, fresh off the showroom floor.
I'm sorry, I'm not trying to flame you, but your just not making any sense.

From talking to alot of shops and knowledgable people they all say that the MAF will read the additional incoming air if there is any and the computer will re-learn. They all said no need for reprogramming. Thats the good thing about MAF, is that it will recognize stuff like that.
I do not want a tuner or chip etc, because I have heard of nothing but trouble with them from people I have talked to. Maybe if I was doing a complete project on a newer car, but for nearly stock stuff, I don't see the point.

But ok, it sounds like you have yourself convinced. Have fun with your mods.
