I installed the TR-6060 six speed transmission, the easiest way to get a driveshaft for that transmission is to use a GT500 unit, and using a GT500 driveshaft requires a different input flange on the axle than the 4.0 V6.

I found a deal on a GT500 axle, and it was simply the easiest route to getting all the conversion parts compatible to put that in.

Sort of stinks on my end, because the TruTrac is a *MUCH* better diff than what comes in the GT500 axle. So I traded down in that regard in order to get the transmission swap finished up. Probably going to end up investing in an 8.8" TruTrac somewhere down the road.

 

Well I would love to take it off of your hands. I want it for the gear ratio

 

Gear ratio makes a huge difference, you'll love it. Getting away from "one wheel peel" territory is pretty awesome too.

 

But like I said, I'm a kid with limited funds as I've made some bad driving choices previously and my car insurance is through the roof, I only have 250$ available right now but should have the extra 100 next Friday.

Just as an observation, loading a large and dirty axle in a brand new Subaru (with ivory interior no less) with little extra room is downright scary

I called Jim Fay at Fays2 and for $20 shipped he's sending me a straight coupling bar instead of the curved one for the vert. Although the curved would work fine, it's an OCD thing. I asked him about maintenance and he said just keep the ball joints clean and not to use lubricant. He said they have nylon inserts and they are self lubricating. He said lubrication tends to attract dirt, which would wear them out. Interesting, I never thought of that. I guess it makes sense. Just thought I'd let you know.
