Ford 8.8 gears are likely the easiest gears to replace and set up. It mystifies me that there are places that screw them up. All you need is some basic tools, a mag base dial gauge, and adial gauge style lb/in and alb/ft torque wrench. If they are FRPP gears, then setting the pinion gear to the right depth is a snap. No special tools required other than a vernier caliper.
I guess there are wrench turners and then there are true mechanics.

I am with you,The last shop went through3 sets of 4.10s all whined on decel, so I had him put the 3.31s back in and then they whined. The shop has been in business since the early 90s and only works on Mustangs. I don't want go through that again.

Can't blame you mate. I will be doing gears sooner or later, but I will do them myself. I have a hard time letting a shop do something I can do myself, even if its not a daily thing for me. I need to establish a lot of trust in the technicians doing the work before I can be comfortable. I have seen plenty of botched jobs. Witha little patience, the right parts and tools and I'm ready to go.
