My first engine beyond a 4cylinder
Just so happens to be a ford 351w. Carb'd.
I got this engine from a buddy at work for $50. SCORE!!!!!*
Anyways, a little about myself. My name is shawn, I am 22 years old, im located in nevada, and im intrigued by the torque and power of the v8's.
Right now i currently drive a mazda miata. Daily driven and i also drift. Miatas are known for their swaps whether it be a 5.0, ls1, or even a 2jz...... Yes, we have huge bays for such a little car......
So, now that i got this motor, i dunno jack **** about it, BUT i have been doing tons of research and i have a couple of people that know their stuff at work that can school me on some of the things about this motor.*
As for the plans, as much as i would like to throw it in a 2000lb miata, i dont think it will happen unless i can get a shell from somewhere to start the mounts and stuff..... I have a few hookups when it comes to fabrication, so i WILL have help with this..... This will be my first ever motor swap and i really dont want to have my life on the lines with me not having any knowledge/experience, so yeah, buds are going to help and guide me..... Although i am pretty decent at welding :P
We are going to tear down the motor to see what i am dealing with...... IF NEEDED, new rods and pistons will go in, but if not, just gonna slap new rings, bearings, and new studs and plop he back together......
It does NOT come with carb, headers, timing cover, intake manifold, and oil pan.......
Which in my sense, those will be replaced anyways for more power.....
Having done some research, a 4 barrel carb, high flow heads, high flow exhaust, high flow intake, and cam it, then the thing will scoot if im not mistaken....
Remeber, im only used to 110hp :P*
Im not scared of 300+ HP, i have driven 250 and it was fun as hell but grew out of it fast too. Also rode in my buddy danny's ls1 miata and that was insane and scary fast but super fun!
Check him out. He is a professional drifter.

As for gearing, i have not done ANY research about transmissions, rear diffs........ Although i do want to stick with the manual transmission that comes with the majority of miatas......*
Still tons of learning to do but just thought i should get a jump start so i really know what im getting into
