Default Eng year

I purchased a 69 Mustang Mach 1 a few years ago and the previous owner said the eng was a 5.0 serial #on the block is DY63833. Does anyone know what year and how do I tell if it is a 5.0?
Thanks

Casting numbers for Fords don't look like that.

A 302 and a 5.0 are the same thing. They put 302's in Mustangs from 1968 to 1995 (or maybe 1996). If it's a SBF, and it isn't a 351 (5.8), it's reasonable to assume it's a 302/5.0.

If you want to know what the actual casting number on the block is, check the area above/near the starter.

If it's a motor is from a passenger car, the casting number will be C8OE-A, or maybe C8TE-B. Blocks that were cast in the 70's start with a "D", the 80's and 90's with an "E".
