Default Older 4.6 swap in a 05 mustang

Ok so I have a 05 v6 mustang that's a matter of time before it gives out and a 94 cougar xr7 with the 4.6 only has 90k. I was wondering if I could get that 4.6 to fit in that 05 mustang? Any advice about the swap

Will it fit physically? Anything is possible with enough money and time. But why? The 94 engine is only a two valve so you're down almost 100 HP and 60ish torque compared to a 05 3-V 4.6. And, depending on your state or local laws, that may not even be legal (older engine in new car) unless the older engine meets or exceeds the emissions standards of the 05.

Only reason I'd be doing it is cause I have the older car and its drivetrain is in great shape and the newer mustang I have is on its death bed from the engine stand point. I figure taking out the older 2v and setting it in the 05 would put me in a spot to make the best out of a bad situation and not really have to spend alot of money. Just wondering about how to go about the wiring and like the pedal since its electric on the newer mustang and what mounts should I use.

I think that you may end up spending more trying this swap. The wiring won't be the same and the controls won't be the same because of the engine differences. So you will have to custom fabricate a lot of things and likely have to run a separate engine control unit.

Well you'd have to swap everything in the drive train over from the Thunderbird to the Mustang. PCM, wiring harness, etc. Then you may either need to adapt the mustang transmission bell housing from your Mustang to the older 4.6L or just swap the tranny as well, which then puts you at another disadvantage (4 speed gearing vs 5 speed). Oh, and if you do that, there's the driveshaft to go from the tranny to the diff. Yuh, you'd be taking a bad situation and probably make it worse and be out two cars instead of one. Best bet, get a used engine from an 05-09 mustang and swap it into your car. That way you won't have such a headache.
