I had heard a non-retro Mustang was going in 2008-2009. Ford wants to get back to new edge styling and away from retro. Actually with the retro Camaro and Challenger coming around that time it might be smart for Ford to launch a non-retro Mustang. Might leave Chrysler and GM wishing they had bypass the retro look. Which, by the way, is starting to get old IMO.

I love the retro look, but i agree that it is becoming too popular and ford needs to get away from it and start something new. Im hoping for somthing totaly different than edge though. they kinda wore that out.

Please god, anything but the dull edge look. The 99-04 Mustangs were about the worst of the lot. But I guess it probably was just a fluke that Ford got it right for S197, they probably will get back to making ugly Mustangs again. I'll just have to go back to being a GM guy again.

Well, I'm not gonna speculate on what kind of specific changes are going to be made in 2009/2010, but I think anyone who thinks Ford is going to backstep to the New Edge design is being seriously misinformed. That would have been like ppl in 97/98 expecting the 99 mustangs to go back to looking more like the Foxes......that just wasn't gonna happen.
I'm guessing that they will give the new mustangs a more contemporary look, but it will still be based off of the current S197 bodystyle. They've been working this 2-step design/redesign routine since the introduction of the Foxes back in 79.
But if I had a chance to put my two cents in.......I'd ask for a more fastback style roofline/reardeck, with a body integrated ducktail......like the 69 Boss/Mach 1. This would give the wing-deleted cars a more aggressive look IMO. And the new GT's should definitely have one of the following under the hood:
1.) 4V variant of the current gen 4.6 motor.... pushing 335-355hp
2.) 4V 5.0 (current gen motor stroked to 302/306).... pushing 350-385hp
3.) 4V 5.4 pushing 400hp
