5.0 Aftermarket Mods
Question:
I'm well aware and am just as excited as the next mustang lover for the new engine. I know with the development of the 5.0, it resulted in a motor with a better intake and exhaust flow than any of the Mustang's previous motors. From reading a write-up article about the new engine, the article explain how the stock intake and exhaust system would provide so much flow typical aftermarket exhaust systems and cold air intakes will likely add less power than in previous models. But like the article stated there is room to tinker with the 5.0. My question is what do you guys think about this in terms of moding and how much would someone have to spend on addition aftermarket parts to have a powerful yet street stang?article: https://mustangforums.com/articles/2...ions.html#more

No one can say how the new motor will respond. But I'll go on the record saying this: a 2011 GT with LT's, O/R piping, gears, and some proper radials will be a force to be reckoned with. This will be a great bolt-on car......and even better with a bit of giggle juice.
So what if new mufflers or a CAI don't do jack? You're going to be starting off with far more power than a 3V 4.6 Mustang did with all those mods done anyways. I have faith.

Yes there is room for more power.
1. 412hp was MADE WITH 87 OCTANE.
2.The engine uses large pulleys, a set of Composite Plastic under drive pulleys would really help.
3.The air box is restrictive as all factory models are, mainly that bend as it attaches to the engine.
CAI, pulleys, and 93 dyno tune should bring the ratings up to 435HP.
Looking into the machining into this engine and the engineering of the Vehicle itself, this vehicle should pull a mid 12 in the 1/4.

Unless I read wrong, but I thought I saw that the 412hp was made with 91? and that the car has a similar computer and will pull back the timing if it sees 87. Most people are expecting about 400hp from 87.

If what you say is true, then Ford was really dumb. Not like its a super big deal to fuel up w/ premium only but its stupid because Dodge found a way w/ the Challenger and Chevy found a way w/ the Camaro to allow it to used 87,91,93. Though they recommend to used premium. The cars are still able to use a lower octane level.

Not having to do the CAI and the headers/rest of the exhaust isn't necesaritly a bad thing. It's already been done to the car when you get it. There are plenty of other relatively cheap bolt-ons that can be had if someone feels the need. Maybe this will help people to focus on the bigger things like heads, cam, and intake.
