Just in case you guys forgot or didnt know, the Ford Mustang GT took first place in the Grand Am beating porsche and BMW and that was with the LIVE AXLE.

The clip above is from the first race of this year 2010. BMW took this race 1 and 2 though. Those new V8 bmws are no joke and this year the camaro is running as well as the new challenger, just like the old tran am series.

I dream of a day where every gt can be a gt500... That day is apparently on the way!
Sounds pretty sick but i dont see myself owning one seeing as im in the middle of college at the moment. Id rather take an old fastback body and put it on a 2011. Get all the luxuries of modern life but with the appearance of old school muscle. Didnt someone do that with an 05-09?

That's what I'm talking about...I want all the modern day suspension, engine, interior, and gadgets...all wrapped up in an old school body. People would get inside and be confused! I would even want the interior to look modern!

You could even keep the old school axle...oh wait there pretty much the same hahaha.........all jokes aside you can make a live axle handle like a IRS so why couldn't make an IRS beefy like a live axle??
#47
You could at much $$$ and a big weight penalty. Long live the live rear axle!!!
#48
Exactly, but it still couldn't handle tons of drag racing abuse(sticky tires). Too many extra parts on an IRS that have to handle the power being transmitted to the rear wheels that make it susceptible to breakage. Why do you think AWD was invented? Transmits power proportionately to the drive wheels so that the IRS isn't overtaxed(although, as the ricer crowd will attest, in high hp applications, drive-line failure is a way of life).

Long live the live axle for a couple more years at least. Don't get me wrong I love my live axle when i'm going down the strip a couple times a year, but I will always choose the IRS for a DD any day of the week. It comes down to a matter of opinion.

^agreed....most of us are thinking years down the line instead of right now! it's nice to know what will be available and all the rumors, but most of us need a good slap of reality..this is a mustang forum, but think about saving some money because tougher times are ahead..
