Default 2018 Mustang Motor Lug

I have a 2018 Mustang GT with the R10 automatic. when I reach 115 mph the car lugs then starts accelerating again. Is this normal?

You mean the 10R80 transmission?

Any mods to the car or completely stock? Are you floored when this happens or just easing into it?

This can happen to most automatics, not just 10R. When flooring it, if the redline cutoff is at or near the shift point while the RPMS are building quickly, , the car will cut the fuel to prevent going over redline, this happens right when the car is going to shift so it stutters/lugs, shifts, then goes on its merry way as the RPM's are once again well below redline.

This can be fixed with tuning by either raising the redline slightly or changing the shift characteristics of the car. Most basic tuners do one or the other which helps to alleviate the problem.

Thanks, this was a huge help, it always happened when it was floored. It is still stock for now, but I have mods that i haven't installed yet and I'm definitely going to get it tuned. I was always keeping my eyeballs straight ahead and looking at exactly where the RPM's were. Huge help thank you!!!!

Most cars that are automatic are based on tuning for comfort and MPG, not performance so, when you push them hard, any deficiencies in that tuning will rear its ugly head.

Even manual mustangs on some newer years (2012 and up) have a Skip-shift feature for this reason (comfort and MPG). It locks the person out of certain gears when they are pushing the car. It can be disabled via tuning or in their case, pulling an electrical connector.
