Default Hello!

I just bought a red '98 SVT Cobra with 87k on her. She already has the T-56 swap, headers, intake and full aftermarket exhaust.

The only problem I have, is the synchros are going. Reverse is a B***H to get into and unless I hold it it won't stay. Under light shifting it's O.K. - above 4k and I have to shift it really easy and still get some grind/chatter. Gears seem solid - no clutch slippage. I'm not going to drive it until it's fixed - don't want to grenade the tranny or shear off a gear or two.

This isn't a daily driver..............I'm building a street legal drag car out of it. (ProCharger or Turbo)

I also own a modified black 2005 Dodge SRT-4 ACR (hence my login name). Stock motor and turbo + ALL the bolt ons. My best on OEM street tires with that car is 13.7 @ 103 at 5000 ft elevation (smoked an '06 C6 'vette by .3! ). I just got Drag Slicks for that car for this Friday (5-5-06). Hoping to see mid 12's.

I REALLY wanted to run the Cobra too, but I don't want to chance the trans.

I would appreciate any feedback/suggestions on the T-56 synchros..............................I love driving the Cobra more than my SRT-4 - and I thought that would NEVER happen!

Please PM with any suggestions. THANK YOU! (I'll get some pics up in a day or two).

T-56s are somewhat frail, especially if you pound on them. My cousin had a 99 LS1 with T56 and it started out with third gear synchro going, then reverse wouldn't hold itself in, then it was clunky/grindy shifting into the rest of the gears. You can either rebuild the transmission, or source another one. He ended up replacing his with a junk yard transmission he payed 500 bucks for.. Good luck..

Thanks for the input....................I got a quote of about $1K to rebuild it. Apparently, synchro failure is pretty common. I guess the previous owners repeated power shifts took it's toll.

welcome!!

If you're in need of some tech info, check out the 4.6 section or the SVT section-- they can help you get the tranny problem figured out.
