If you are looking for power gains you can feel then you need to go nitrous or supercharger.

+1. Or if you are not ready to go that route you might want something like a 3:90 geara nice set of cams, full length headers and some sort ofaftermarket mid-pipe (with or without cats depending if you need to pass emissions). But none of these are going to have the power gains of nitrous orforced induction. Welcome to the forums, congrats on the car, you couldn't havemade a better choice

Thank you for the advice;however, I am not ready to supercharge the motor. Would I be better off with 3:55's or 3:73's? AS you know, I have a flowmaster axle back exhaust. I found a link on this site that had an axle back exhaust but not muffler. Will this reduce my power by taking away too much back preasure on a stock motor? I am not worried about emissions(I live in GA).Will this sound good or like an old pick up truck with glass packs?
thank you everyone,
this is a fanatastic forum!!!!

No mufflers[:'(] It will sound like an old pickup with glasspacks. Keep your flows, besides changing the axle back will not net any significant gains. If you really want to liven up the sound and free up a few more horses, get an off/road mid pipe (meaning no cats) and long tubed headers. When buying the mid pipe though keep inmind that if you get long tubes you need to make sure the mid pipe is the shorty style. Also there are a few different types of mid-pipe such as X-pipe, H-pipe, and MAC has a prochamber mid pipe, all of which will vary the tone of your car slightly.

If you go w/3:55's you probably won't tell much of a difference from stock, usually everyone with manuals go with 3:73's and autos go with 4:10's. I suggested previously 3:90's as a happy medium b/c I've talked to people with 3:73's who wish they had more and people with 4:10's sometimes wish they had a little less. I used to have 4:10's in my auto, but it drove me nuts on the highway, I now have 3:55's b/c I gota good deal on them, wish I would have went with 3:73's or 3:90's. This is all JMO.

Thanksfor the advice!!!If I cut out the cats and weld a 2.5" pipe on each side, will this make my computer go nuts? people have told me that if i cut them out, the oxygen sensor will not work and potentially damage the motor..Is this true? how do i accomplish this with this "modern" mustangs?

thank you echoman

Your welcome, thats what we are all here for. You could do that, I think to make the check engine light go off you have to install MIL eliminators. As far as engine damage goes I guess that could happen, by causing a lean condition, I'mnot real sure though. The best thing you could do, and this goes back toyour originalpost b/c it gets you morepower, is have a reputable local shop install your mid-pipeor have them cutout the cats like you said and have them tuneit on the dyno.A custom dyno tune is far more accurate than a hand held tuner, it also will get you more power, and theycanprevent any engine damagedue to the exhaust change. On a naturally aspirated setup with these newer cars, a free flowing exhaust as well as a custom dyno tune works wonders[8D] Good luck with the stang and keep us posted.
