Ok, I know this is a newbie question, but that is why I posted it here...</P>

</P>

Is there a difference between the 5.0 engine in the 87-93 mustang, and the 93-95 mustang?</P>

H.P., specs, reliability???</P>

93 - 95 has hyper pistons vs the 87-92 with forged. Reliability is no different unless using a power adder. Hp is the same as well, 215 I think.

And what is better hyper, or forged pistons? I'm not sure what the difference is. I'm pretty sure that 87-93 5.0's had 225 hp though... I could be wrong.

<FONT face=Arial size=2> I start the car, and it will idle about 2 or 3 grand, but only for a few seconds.</FONT></P>

<FONT face=Arial size=2> Then it will idle normally,run fine.</FONT></P>

They might very well could be 225hp, not 215, I wasn't sure. Forged pistons are alot stronger. They can handle detonation and higher cylinder pressures and heat better, they are ideal for power adders like nitrous and supercharging. The difference in production:</P>

<U>hypereutectic</U> - cast pistons (melted metal poured into shape) that are made up of an aluminum alloy with silicone and other stuff to make them light and strong. Alot better than standard cast pistons but not great when it comes to increased heat and pressure over stock.</P>

<U>forged</U> -instead of being poured into a mold, they are hammered or squeezed into shape. This makes them alot stronger, but also heavier and they expand more than hyper pistons.</P>

Thanks for the explanation mdvaldosta.... that makes sense to me.... </P>

And for dkadams64, have you put anything different into the engine such as a k&amp;N air filter, or an intake without disconnecting the battery, and then reconnecting it? The ECU has to recallobrate.....through the MAS Try that...</P><edited><editID>ksiebert</editID><editDate>37910.496400463</editDate></edited>

You might want to take the Idle Air Controller ( long tube on side of T/B) and clean it. Sometimes if they get really dirty it will start having idle issues.
