Default CAI/XCAL2 Problems

Hello there

I'm really new to tuning so please be patient with all my questions.I recently installed a CAI(Tunable Induction) and a 91 octane tune on my 08 GT and noticed it seems sluggish between 500 - 3000 RPMs. It seems like there is a 2-3 second hesitation like it bogs down then kicks in. Maybe too much fuel? Now once I get above 3000 rpms I can notice a little more power over stock. Is that normal? I also noticed a stronger than normal exhaust smell than before. I did provide the computer number so the tunes should be for my car. Does the strong gas type smell from my exhaust mean it may be running rich? If so, what can I do to improve performance and fix the rich problem? Adjusting spark with XCAL or maybe adjust the A/F mix? I appreciate your help.
