New to the Site But Not Mustangs!
Greetings from Alpharetta, GA! I have finally joined this site after numerous years of Mustang ownership! I am still kicking myself for selling my 89. I had a 89 LX with a Ford Racing 350 HP 5.0 crate motor and some other goodies, it made 280 at the wheels and was soooo clean. Had to sell it though since it was just about the worst daily driver someone could ask for. Also, I got on this craze for some reason that I was all about the VTEC and needed a 5th gen Prelude since it was sporty, fun, economical, and great for daily driving.
Let me tell you, this was a HUGE mistake. After owning a 2001 GT and that 5.0 monster, you start to take a few things for granted. Things like: power in any way, shape, and form, sound, and feel. My 01 Prelude SH was a sweet car but it was just so dull. You start the thing up and have to tap the gas to see if the car is on or not, and I can't put an exhaust on it cause its going to sound like garbage. The only time I am able to know that I am in a performance car is when I am taking corners at 30+ or when I pass 5500 rpms. When I got in either of my Mustangs, you know immediately that you are driving something special. Unless you are driving the Prelude ***** out, you might as well be driving a Camry with a sunroof, thats how dull it is unless you are pushing it. It has no clutch feel, the gearbox is almost numb, and the throttle is ... well, quite lacking. And in the end, insurance was still high, it only burned premium, got about 19-22 MPG, and burned a quart of Mobil 1 oil every 1k miles ... what a horrid trade
But thats all personal preference. Some people may think Preludes are the sweetest cars ever; most likely that would not be anyone on this site though So I sold the Prelude after a month of ownership and actually made money and bought my dad's Miata. I now I am doing everything I can to not drive 4 cylinder cars! Slowly but surely I am working my way towards a 96-98 Cobra. It will come within the next year, so I decided to finally join this site to research them a little as well as talk with fellow like minded enthusiasts! Questions and comments are more than welcome, and I can post pics of the 89 if anyone is interested.
