Default VIN Question

New to the Forum.
Just Looked at a 66 GT that was not running. Vin number on the door plate, pink slip and registration designate a C code car (6R07C######) but the VIN under the hood is a "A" code car (6R07A######)??? Car seemed to have all the correct GT parts including a 4bbl carb, disc brakes, etc. Anyone have any experience with this situation?
Thanks.

Welcome to MF. Make your way to the "Classic" section, you'll have better luck there.
