HELP!!
Hey guys! I am a soon to be college student and I need a good car to take to college with me. Strongly thinking about a mustang..05 and up (don't know what generation those are). I was just wanting to get some opinions from some of you owners about the car..is it a good car for college? What are maintenance costs looking like? Gas mileage? Insurance, which this will be high for me anyways since I'm only 18 but it would be nice to see what I'm dealing with in the future. Also if I do get the mustang, it'll be a v6. My parents won't let me get a v8.

I couldn't tell you a whole lot because I just bought my GT 2 weeks ago. But I will tell what I can since I am in a similar position as you.
The V8's are bullet proof as far as consumer reports and every other outlet I researched are concerned. V6 not so much. Having said that I see a ton of V6's everywhere I go here in Texas so they can't be that bad. Also I test drove one and while it was not a rollercoaster it did still give me a little kick when I stepped on it so all is not lost there.
This car is the most comfortable to drive car I have ever owned and is super easy to see out of.
If you are tall, you are in luck because I am 6-3 and fit just fine.
Gas for V8 is terrible LOL 16 to 23 if I recall correctly. V6 is actually similar to the one in my old jeep in terms of power and that jeep got pretty decent mileage....not sure if that is a super accurate example though. X)
My insurance is sumwhat of a mystery to me because it went up by....3 dollars. I kid you not. I am 22 and married, clean driving record...yeah.....I thought it would go up by 100 dollars.
So there is my 2 cents. I will answer any question you have so feel free. V8 may cost more gas but depending on what some of the V6 owners say here on the forum it might be cheaper in the long haul to get a V8 if you can convince the folks. Show them the difference in the consumer reports reliability rating. It is good ammunition.
