Default Conflicting mod info for BEGINNERS

First I'm new to the forums and owned my 00 GT for two months. I'm reading conflicting post about mods. Some guys are saying CAI systems are complete waste of money and add no horse power. Video on American muscle shows approx 26+ power gain with BBK CAI with bama tune. So is it only the tune that's truly adding power??? Opinions on adding 73mm TB I found that is legal in California. I'm also adding 3.73 gears next week because I ran neck n neck with 14' Volkswagen golf GTI on freeway. Can't be losing to 4 cyl cars!! I'm all stock except for 1 chamber flow masters. Lastly any advice on finding a shop that does “Bama“ type tunes in Sacramento area???

A CAI won't add noticable HP. Only thing it (K&N filter) did for me was cause the fuel consumption of the car to go down. That, and a bit of a sound it causes when you punch the gas.

A CAI in combination with other mods may however yield better results. No clue what the gains would be specifically tho.

Welcome to the forum. I think the claims from some companys/dealers may be slightly exaggerated some times. They want you to buy their product because theirs is better than the others. Nothing too out of the normal there as they all do it. And I don't blame them, it works.

I usually go by forum majority on mods. Do your research and dig around until you feel confident on what a mod will or will not do.

Good luck

Figure8allday - Welcome. Good question here and I can't stress enough that our cars are all going to make power differently based on either the motor, the age of the car, dyno used, where the pulls were performed etc.

I've seen stock 2V GT's put down anywhere from 220-240 to the tire and it really depends on the car.

Being said the gains that they're listing are throughout the curve and having been a guinea pig here with my '01 Bullitt I can attest to the fact that it's power you can feel along with actually running the car against a friends VW (On the track of course)

Our cars no matter the year are so corked up it's not even funny and they honestly will perform that much more efficiently if you're going to stuff more air into the motor.

With A CAI (Make sure you're keeping an eye out for ones that are CARB Legal) we have them listed on our site under specs, along with a TB, and gears, paired with a tune I would guarantee that you would not only see but feel the results.

Drop me a line if you have any other questions and I'm here to help.

I got the JLT CAI & Bama tune from AM and it definitely made a difference I could feel. I can't attest to the difference the CAI made as I bought them as a package and installed them together.. but can say it was worth the $ for the difference it has made.

hey ucinn - I'm happy to hear that you're still enjoying your setup.

I can't stress it enough to anyone and no matter the build if you're going to do one, do the other. The Tuner and Cold Air will work hand in hand with each-other as opposed to just picking up the intake.

It's also a great idea to pair the tuner with the intake as our cars just aren't optimized from the factory to accommodate the additional air flow.

If anyone has any questions don't hesitate to let me know and I'm here to help.

Gears are a no brainier. What little bit of torque you have is multiplied with gears. I also put headers on everything I own and think they are a better investment than a CAI.
