Alright guys, need help..

Working on restoring my 65 mustang..

replaced the battery tray mount, while doing so bought a new battery (same specs as the old). Once installed immediately after connecting the cables, smoke started pouring from the alternator. Figured the alt might be bad, replaced it and just had the same results. Cables were attached to the proper posts.

Any idea as to what is going on???

Only thing I can think of is the cables are crossed. But if your sure they aren't then I'd start looking at the rest of the wiring. Something is crossed somewhere.
