Question Buying Mustang again: 2006 GT vs 2014 V6

Hi all,

Hope you can help me decide what Mustang to buy. First, just a little bit about myself: I drove a 2005 manual v6 from 2005 to 2013. Had to sell it then - new house, new kid, etc. Enjoyed it a lot, even with all of the TSB's and other annoyances. After driving highlander for the past few years, I really missed the engine sound, the handling in turns, the ability to pass most other cars at will, etc. Safety with all of the airbags, ABS, and stability control gave me a piece of mind when driving my kids in it.

I now have an opportunity to buy a pre-owned Mustang with a manual transmission again, this time as a weekend driver. I currently see two within my price range: a 2006 GT with 16k on it and some mods (CAI, strut brace, mufflers, tune) OR 2014 v6 with 22k on it and no mods. I am guessing that GT will have better torque feel and newer v6 will have better handling and safety features.

Should I:

a) buy 2006 GT
b) buy 2014 v6
c) buy something else

Please let me know what you think.

05-06 Mustang (GT) had tons of TSB and issues. If you want an S197 GT find a 08 (build date of Nov 07 or later). Cars with that build date or later have a revised head with a more standard 1-piece type spark plug and are overall the most reliable of the bunch since they resolved all the other TSB's that plagued older cars like the water leaks, thunks/clunks, etc.

Don't know anything about the 3.7L V6's other than the first model year of them had some issue with the driveshaft blowing apart in a couple of instances at high speeds. There were extenuating circumstances in one instance so that was more so on the owner, not the car.

I too just got back into a Mustang as a weekend car. I went with an 07 GT, 5 speed. The newer v-6's run good, but if you get one, you'll question your decision every time you hear a GT drive by.
