Default Automatic shifter assembly

Hi everyone. I am new to this forum and have a question I can not seem to find an answer to. Here goes. I have a 1966 restored base model Mustang, 289 V8, C code automatic transmission with a factory installed center console. My question is this: I would like to remove the center console and replace it with an automatic transmission shifter assembly. The rectangular, rounded top assembly, without the entire console which extends between the front bucket seats back to the rear passenger area. Can I just remove the console assembly and replace it with the rounded top assembly? Will the hardware and screws provided match up with existing mounting holes from the console assembly or do I need to purchase an entire shifter assembly with a new bucket and trans linkage? Thanks, Rich P.
