Hello- I'm NEW!!
I am 55 y/o. I never had any kids, I just got married at 53. I have been a saver all my life. I have never had a 'nice' car. I currently drive a Mazda 6 sports wagon. It's a practical car, because I have dogs and love to go hiking/camping/fishing. I want to reward myself for paying off my mortgage, so I have been looking at the 2018 Ford Mustang GT. I am sort of a cheapskate and I have never been able to convince myself to plop down big $$$ on a car. I have never had a truly fast car.
The Mustang GT ranges from $33K to over $50K depending on the options. This car has 460 hp. Some Ford dealers have an arrangement with Rousch, where you can have a supercharger installed for around $6K, and have a 700 hp car for under $50K!!! That is insane!!!
At present I have 3 vehicles; my m/c- a Kawasaki ZRX1200, my 2004 p/u truck-it only has 32K on it. I rarely drive it. It stays parked in the garage.
My daily driver is a 2004 Mazda 6 Wagon. It is a GREAT Car with only 133K on it.
My Wife has the car that all Lifetime Channel viewers drive,,,, a Subaru!!!
I could not justify having 4 vehicles for just myself, so I would get rid of the Mazda. The p/u truck would get booted from my garage and become my daily driver, Here's the rub = I'm too cheap and practical. One part of my brain is saying;
"You deserve it. You sacrificed for 30 years and paid off your house!!! Go buy a Toy".
The other part of my brain says; "You have achieved your goals by NOT listening to the other (idiot) side of your brain. Don't **** away your hard earned $$$."
I'm obsessed with these things- I am just trying to decide if I want to get the base model (GT)- I've seen them at the local dealer for $33K, but I do like the; active exhaust, larger-wider rims, 12" display, etc. I'm thinking that I should at LEAST get the PP1 option. It will be a weekend car. I do not have any desire to go to the track/dragstrip.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

We love the premium GT vert non pp with 10 speed and safety package and 19 inch polished aluminum mags and spare tire as only options, don’t need a pp, hauls ***
with your attitude your perfect to “walk away” when you don’t get it for what you want to
pay for it
we paid 45056 before TTL snd the wife uses it as s daily driver snd loves it

Thank you both fo the feedback. That is great advice. I was on the Ford website last night and 'built' a car. It was close to $48K when I was done. I will definitely add the spare tire option (that's disgusting)!!
I contacted Hertz, and I have reserved a GT to rent this weekend.
Wife 18- I see that you are in Louisiana, I am from New Orleans, but I live in the SF Bay Area now. What part of LA are you in?

Buy a really fast and impractical car. If not a Mustang, then a Camaro, Corvette, Cayman or something along those lines.
You can't take it ($$$$) with you!!
I am probably the polar opposite of you. I'm 46 and have had 5 Corvettes, a BMW335i, a Jaguar XK and a Mercedes CLS550. There is nothing that compares to how alive you can feel in a powerful car. Keep us posted.

I got it!!!
I went to the dealer on Saturday, just to take a look, and I purchased a 2018 GT, 10 speed, premium with PP1 and 400a. It is Magnetic Grey. I'm in love.
Thank you for the information and motivation.

If you died tomorrow would you regret NOT buying a bad *** car?
BOOM. Go buy one dude. You don't even have a house payment. I'll trade you...
Oh and do the blower for $6k, too. Gotta die someday! Show your wife how big your huevos REALLY are!
