Default Expantion Valve

I have a problem with my AC, and I think that the Expantion Valve might me clogged up. So I wanted to get a replcement...which I found in multiple pleaces online. fordparts to Amazon. So I started looking and I cant seem to locate the valve, I am not sure if it isunder the dash or on the outside on the fire wall? Also I think that if I have the AC free of freon, I was going to replce the orifice tube filter, which I found under the battery.

Where is the Expantion valve located? a picture woud be awesome.

05 to 2010 don’t use an expansion valve. They have an orifice tube.

I am just tring to make sure that I under stand, so starting in 2011 they switched back to a expantion valve? DR3Z19849A. But from 05 to 2010 they did not have one at all and just used a orifice tube? I thought that the OT only was there to collect debris in the lines.

So, if that is the case......what would cause my high side to be under 100 amd the low side over 70....... and the compressor to clicks on for 30 secs and at that time the low side gauge moves......it just blows cool air. Can the OT tube cause that?

TY for you help.

(2010 digram...but looks like what is under the dash board.)

Orifice tubes predate expansion valves. They separate the high/low side of the system to create the pressure drop between the two halves by using a fixed orifice (hole). They are independent of temperature, unlike a TXV (thermal eXpansion Valve) that is affected by temp and can adjust the orifice opening based on temp..

Yes, Orifice tubes can clog due to debris. TXV also have their drawbacks too as in getting stuck open/closed or being slow to open/close.

The Tube is located on the passenger side near the firewall.

However, it could be a weak compressor too.
