Default 351 Cleveland problems

Need some help here. I have a 351 Cleveland motor in my 69 Mustang. When I try to time it the timing mark is way above TDC. I took No. 1 plug out and bump the motor until my finger blew out. Pointer on the wheel was at oTDC. I turned the crank by hand to get it at 6 degrees BDC. I took off the distributor cap and it was inline with spark plug no.1. When I start the car the timing mark is way past TDC. I'm missing something but I don't know what.
