Another newbie
Hows it going everyone. I'm new to this site and so far I'm really liking what I see. I bought a 1988 5.0 Convertible in mint condition. Everything on the car is stock. I'm serious about the mods I want to do but need the advice, opinions and maybe ideas of Stangs owner's who've been there, done that. My questions are in the intake, exhaust and turbo areas. Fist exhaust, I want my 5.0 to growl, to sound as though some other car just pissed it off. Any ideas? I've heard so many things from people: "straight headers" and "cherry bombs". I want some good technical info. Thanks guys!

Welcome to the forums, stay the hell away from cherry bombs! Go with a good exhaust system. There are many systems available such as flowmaster or borla. Try the 5.0 section and they can help you out there. Have fun!
ok , like he said...no cherry bombs, they sound like crap.
i like flowmaster and mac best. long tube headers w/ an off road h(or x) pipe. and flowmaster 2 chamber 2 1/2" catback. (there are some ripoff flowmaster stuff out there, mac being one of them, they sound just as good though.
do all the exhaust at the same time and do yourself that favor. open headers on a stock block will be slower than it was w/ exhaust.
don't bother w/ an intake til you do heads, you won't gain a thing really, about 5 hp tops.
my rec. is: get a set of 3.73 or 4.10's if your serious, best bang for the buck mod you can do, other than nitrous. about $400 total and will fell like you added 100 hp.
the stock geras in your car (if they are somehow still stock) will on the door tag "ax code" m=2.73 z=3.08 e=3.27 (aod av. only)
if it's an auto i would not go lower than 4.10
then either spray it, or get heads and intake, then do your turbo, but blowers are usually alot cheaper than turbos, depends how much boost your looking to make though.
a 5-speed 'vert w/ 4.10's and cheater slicks will run mid 13's and run 12's on 100 shot of nitrous.
also, unless your car is from cali, it is speed density rather than mass air. thats not a big deal, and it's actually a little faster in complete stock form. but, mass air is more "tuneable" when it comes to mods, the computer is friendlier to the mods.
you never "have " to switch, and i wouldn't for a long time if ever, but alot of guys think that is hi-priority.
