Me and my friend decided we would go up to the track and see how it was and how we ran. Seeing as how I just got my exhaust done and timing fixed I was very getty about it so we set off for the nice hour long ride (from his house). I was in my stang of course while he was following me in his 86 z28(has a 350).
As soon as we got there we were totally clueless, we were asking way too many questions(ie: where do i go? what do i do now? what do i fill out? how do i do the staging lights etc). I passed tech with a breeze while my friend camaro barely passed for some reason he said(think it was something about his battery) When I finally got thru tech and junk and got into that nice waiting line thing they have before the staging. I hear "Obby? that you obby from mustangforums?" I turn around and see this skinny guy in a flannel walkin towards my car saying this. So I say to him "Yep I'm obsolete" and he introduces himself as NHDungeon. So i'm kinda surprised to actually see another person from the forums there (didnt think anyone was going to go on wednesday). So he gives me the run down once more, we showed eachother our cars and then the line started moving so we both hopped in our cars and got ready. The line moved kinda quick seeing as how I got there very early and there wasnt too many people there at the time. I was very nervous that I was going to **** something up so when I got to the staging lines I ask the person standing there what to do ONCE more. So she tells me again and I pull up slowly and set those lights off at the top of the tree. Everyone was saying "GO AT THE THIRD YELLOW" so I watch the tree fall and I gave it a hefty amount of gas-to-floor action. But I didn't move because I was still holding in the clutch and just revved my engine kinda high. After it bogged down a bit i let out the clutch and went on my way. God what a dumbass I was thinkin to myself, spinning a bit thru first and then moving to second, MISSING third then finally just kept it in fourth til i passed the line. I follow the guy that creamed me(15.9 second firebird I think it was), and I'm like ugh I suck. So I get my time slip and see that my first run ever was a 17.008 1/4 mile @ 93.25MPH. Reaction time was kinda crappy too which was a .796(I guess i moved a bit when that clutch thing happened). Well I get back in line and talk to NHDungeon and he says he got I think a 15.1 or something close to that and I show him mine and tell him what I did. We started laughin and start talkin about somethin(cant remember). Anyways the line started movin again and my second run wasn't too much better then my first. Reaction Time was .903 60' was 2.1 and my 1/4 was 15.044 @ 96.78MPH (Yes i missed third again and had some wheel spin). But that run I beat was racing against a V6 Dodge Dakota. I Kicked His 17.5 Second ***!!
Heh, well I go back in line again(still not too crowded and my friend wanted to try and get up next to me so we could race eachother(he was only getting like mid to high 15's @ like 85mph. Well he pulls up besides me and gets out of his car leaving it running. We start talkin showin eachother our slips and sayin how much fun it actually was and then the line starts movin again. So I hop in my car and move up a bit, and I notice he was running up to the driver side of my car saying " KYLE KYLE I LOCKED MY KEYS IN MY CAR AND ITS STILL RUNNING!!!" So i'm laughing at his horrid stupidity we tell NHDungeon and he's laughin at him while he's complaining about what he was going to do. So we tell him to find a cop or something with a slim jim and he finally gets his door open somehow. He later tells me his driver side door is ****ed up now and he has to open his door from the inside or get in from the passenger side now. Well my third run was against this horribly beefed up 3rd gen camaro(so it looked). Had this huge cowl and big mean slicks on it with a nice tone exhaust. We got to the line, I had bad wheel spin again. He blows the doors off me and while I MISSED THIRD yet again. But, the run was my best all night. R/T: .692 60': 2.454 1/4: 15.029@97.43 The camaro got a 12.3@114.17.
And I will Fess up to it even though I prolly shouldnt. I Lost to a civic Had horrible wheel spin and missed THIRD yet again. Got a 15.7@96MPH while the civic got 13.2@116MPH. Felt horrible losin to that, saw him get out of his car (spanish of course) go over to his Boys and say "Yeah!!" doin that little high five thing they do.
I've got somethin NHDungeon prolly doesnt want me to say on the forums either . Was watching after about my 6th run or so, and saw something pretty funny .

Anyways If you got this far or if you didn't here's a summary:
First time at NEDW. Had horrid Wheel Spin and Kept missing Third.
Best Time was 15.029@97.43MPH and My Best R/T was .511
Lost to a Low 13 second civic
Friend locked his keys in his camaro with it running in the waiting line thing
Met NHDungeon up there

All in all had a great time and i'm soooooo going next wednesday.

Anyways I fergot to mention I got some free D/R's that night last night too. Just need to find some rims they can fit on. My friends brother was watching the whole time I was there talkin with this one guy. After I finished my runs I went and started talkin to him as well. He was pretty cool, and gave me FREE D/R's!

Damn, I wanna get racing now too. Hopefully will be there in a few weeks, they kick us out of here on may 9th I think. I've got underdrives on the way so I'll at least have those in before I run, probably not the 3.73's yet until I make sure I've got a job for the summer. Not gonna spend $200 to have something installed if I'm not sure I've got an income yet.

glad to hear you guys made it out to the track finally! OB, sounds like you need to let some air out of your rear tires to get some traction and definitely need to work on hitting 3rd gear too! LOL those drag radials should help. and don't worry about flogging your car, that's what they build them for, run the hell out of it every chance you get. might be a good idea to get a rev limiter so you don't blow up when you miss 3rd gear! LOL
and don't worry about looking stupid, everybody does something dumb first time out, at least you didn't roll the lights and try to stage with your back tires, now that is embarrassing! you need to try and find the right rpm that lets you leave without much tire spin but also doesn't bog down the motor. keep trying and you'll find out what works best. you need to come down to VMP last weekend in June for the Fun Ford Weekend and race in Quick Ford. I need some more opponents who can't hit 3rd gear as that's what won me 2 out of 6 rounds back in '99 when I won the class and $500 too! LMFAO
just kidding guys! I do like to line up against guys with 5 speeds though, the odds are in my favor with my Art Carr Extreme AOD unless I go brain dead and don't hit my shift points! hope the weather lets y'all boys get back out on the track real soon!

We've got a fun ford weekend up here at epping too, I think it's usually in august, we'll def all have to hit that up.

 

Yep, Ford weekend is in August at Epping. Pretty sure it's the 21st and 22nd, which is just before our 24th wedding anniversary. Hmmm, how am I gonna run that by her? (gulp) [sm=smiley31.gif]
