Default Roundman, question for you

Last night at the drags, OB bumped into a guy selling a pair of Mickey Thompson ET Streets, mounted on Mustang 15" rims (phone dial type) at a price that was very hard to turn down OB had other things on his mind (tranny/clutch), so I ended up with them
Naturally, we had to try them out right off. [&:] Didn't get the results we were hoping for, so was wondering what, or if, I was doing wrong. 1st off, the tires don't seem to be properly balanced, as they vibrated at high speed. I'm going to have them rebalanced. But is it normal for ET Streets to "wander" going down the track? When running my BFG street tires, the car just goes straight as an arrow. The MT's really keep me moving around, having to actually steer the car to keep it in the lane. It's kind off like having Bias ply tires on the rear with radials on the front.

Hmmmmmmm........did I just answer my own question? Are the MT's bias ply type tires?

I'm not sure about the slicks, they should say something on the sidewalls about bias ply or radial construction. My guess is bias ply. One thing that may cause the wandering is not enough air in the slicks. I run my slicks at 14 psi in a car that weight 3,200 lbs with me in it. If I go as low as 12, the rear starts to hunt around a bit toward the top end of the strip. Sometimes slicks will take a set if they are not rotated from side to side occasionally on the car, so you might try to flip flop them to different sides and see if that makes any difference also. (you can use some white shoe polish on the inside of the tire to mark them so you can tell the difference between them and just change the side you put them on each time you use them to even out the wear)
By the way guys, when you are doing a burnout, just pull slowly through the water to about 15" in front of the puddle and don't be spinning the tires in the puddle. All this does is throw excess water up into the wheelwells and it will drip down on the tires as you pull up to the line and cause your tires to slip instead of grip. Just pull through the water and get past the puddle, then hit the gas and pop the clutch and they will spin easy enough to get a decent burnout done every time.
