Default Newbie to NASCAR

So I hear that Toyota is joining NASCAR. Then I heard that it doesn't really make a difference in competition because as of next year, all of the bodies will be the same, and that all of the engines and frames/cages are already the same, regardless of whether the car is a Ford, Chevy, etc.. Is this really true? Is there no such thing as a Ford engine or a Chevy engine in NASCAR anymore?

welcome to the wonderful world of NASCAR.

They have all been using the same engine specs for many many years. It's a 358 c.i.d. carbeurated, pushrod engine that will turn over 9,000 RPM and make 800+ HP naturally aspirated. They may have the same specs but some guys are making ALOT more HP than other guys out there.

They have had the common body since '02 (I think it was '02)....however they still use the front and rear bumpers from the specific manufacturers.

Yeas Toyota is coming in. They have been in truck for a couple of years already.

The "new car" that is supposed to be run next year will still be axactly the same as what they are doing today with the common body but it will still have the nose and tail from the different manufacturers. The big reason for the body change next year is safety. They are trying to slow the cars down and make them safer for the driver and less aero dependant. It's a bigger car that gets the driver more towards the center of the car and gives them more room above their heads as well.

I could go on and on but just keep watching. It's cool.

So do the Ford guys run a 358 cid Ford engine, and the Chevy guys run a 358 Chevy engine? Or do they all run the same 358 cid block and just mod it to their tastes and desires using all custom (i.e. non-Ford and non-Chevy) mods?

NASCAR seems to be sounding more like IROC competition. []

they use "factory" blocks that are specific to manufacturer.

I am into Grand Am, where they actually have real engines, not a Clevelor like NASCAR. Grand Am has a 4.6L DOHC Ford, a 5.0 Pontiac, a 3.9L Porsche, as well as Lexus and BMW engines, as well as different chassis that look DIFFERENT! Best of all, they turn both directions!

A wing! [sm=badidea.gif] Has NASCAR gone ricer on us? [sm=headbang.gif]

I found this article about the new car - pretty informative and has pictures. Skip the first half of the article (boring), as the specs and tech info on the car are near the end:
