Thanks Birdieman, just checked out your link. Man that is great that you are driving that rail, looks like you guys have a lot of experience behind you, and things are starting to progress real good for the team. Now I know the fact behind your user name(birdieman) The Mrs. and myself are looking foward to meeting you. I sure you will enjoy your stay at New England Dragway. The track can hold some big numbers and the air is always good in sept. here is a link with some history about N.E.D. also how did the George Thorogood sponsorship come about, I just saw him in concert a couple of weeks ago here in New Hampshire , He is one of my favorite performers. http://www.motorsportunderground.com...%20Dragway.htm
Yes, I go to VMP every year and I do believe I saw you there this year. I'm a member of both the IHRA and NHRA since 1974. I also try to attend at least one NHRA national event every year as I have been doing so every year since 1974 at Englishtown when I got my first dose of nitro and I was hooked. When the NHRA ran at VMP I got to meet and hang out with the Snake and Larry Dixon and crew as the local Miller distributor, Kozak Beverages, really got into drag racing and supporting the Miller Lite team. They held a big party every Thursday when the race was in town and invited a lot of their bigger customers and friends along with the whole Snake team. Since the NHRA left VMP, a bunch of us from Kozak and Philip Morris USA would get together just about every year and rent a motorhome and make a road trip to one of the nearby NHRA races to hang out with the Miller Lite dragster team and enjoy the races. We've been to Bristol twice, Maple Grove twice, Atlanta once, and Columbus once. Atlanta and Bristol are good tracks but I can't say the same for Maple Grove and Columbus but then again I've been spoiled by racing weekly at VMP in Dinwiddie every since it opened in 1994. I race my '88 Mustang in the footbrake class and Quick Ford when the Fun Ford Weekend comes to town and I help my racing friend run his '23T altered. I got lucky in '99 the first year the FFW came and won the Quick Ford bracket on Saturday and pocketed the $500 purse! Best my friend has done in Fast Ford is make it to the semi's twice. His car is an older Brogie chassis, 115" wheelbase with a 530 ci Ford engine running injected on alcohol right now. His best times so far are 8.07 at 163+ mph. He is just now completeing a blower motor to see if he can get down into the 7's, so we'll have to see if he can make it with the new combination. His goal is to run 200 mph someday and he will get there!
I stood in the pouring rain last year to hear George Thorogood when he came to Richmond and the man really rocks! I can only imagine what if feels like to drop the hammer on a blown nitro motor, it must be something else! I don't think I would have the guts to do so myself, but then again....
It's good to have you here on the forum and I certainly wish you the best with your racing efforts. Keep the shiny side up and see if you can't put Millican on the trailer at least once before the year is over.
