Default Help me out here

I just purchased an 06 GT Premium. It is completely stock except for upgraded audio and a Magnaflow cat-back system. I was talking to a guy the other day that told me I should get Tuner for my car. I don't know much about cars other than the fact that I love my Stang! What exactly is a Tuner? Thanks for your patience and help.

lets you adjust different things with your car. 05+ GTs respond very well to them. they usually come with "91 octane" tunes that adjust your timing and give you some more HP. also let you calibrate your car's gears if you swap those, change shift points in an auto, disable traction controler. lots of little things. get a tuner and a CAI and you'll see close to 30RWHP. that's a noticable difference.

What is a CAI? With the 91 tune does that mean I can only fill up with 91? Are these things that I could easily install myself? Any recommendations as to which ones and where to order from? Thanks nanaki

CAI = cold air intake. yes, the 91 means you have to fill up with 91 or higher at the pump. which is only like a $3 difference. for a car like yours, it's worth it. the intake and tuner can both be done by yourself (a friend helps the CAI go quicker). it's definitely worth it for 05+ cars.

you can order both from www.mustangtuning.com , www.summitracing.com , or one of our many many site sponsors on the main page. get an SCT tuner and whatever CAI you find more to your liking.

So I understand what the Tuner does, but what does the CAI do? Do either of these affect the factory warranty?

the CAI allows more cold air to come into the engine and has a less restrictive filter on it. more better flowing air into the engine = good.

nothing can void the whole warranty of the car (unless you blow/turbo it). if they can link an aftermarket part to whatever failed in your car, then they can void it. a CAI won't be linked to anything. the tuner probably will. but if you have a problem with your car, just put your car's stock tune on with the tuner before going to the dealership.
