Default Boost Problems?

Normally when I am driving I never look at my boost gauge. However today I took it for a few rips and realized my boost only goes up to about 3psi and doesn't go any higher. Now I am wondering whether I am only really getting 3 pounds of boost or what? The only thing I can think off is that there is one skinny (vacuum?) line that comes out from a bunch...i think its called the tree. Off to the left of the motor near the TB. I capped it off because I have no idea where it goes. Any ideas what might be the problem.

PS: Powerdyne 6psi kit for 87 GT 5.0

yeah. if you have any centrifugal s/c, you aren't going to make max boost until almost redline.

Check all your piping connections and check for leaks.

like nanaki said.but only 3 psi? What supercharger do you run? Which Vortech? But you could have a little leak or belt slippage.

your vacuum hose on the boost gauge might not be on tight enough. does it feel like the car isn't pulling as hard as it used to? i think you'd be able to tell a huge difference between pulling on 3psi instead of like 10psi.

I agree...it would be like day and night between 3 and 10psi. If you dont really feel any difference. You really need to call Powerdyne and ask, because some S/C are kinda peaky...they make all their boost in the high rpms very breifly. Others come on slowely and build up as the rpm's increase. Others make most power down low, etc. It all depends. Get a friend to watch your boost levels while you run it 1-4 gears. Ive heard from a buddy it takes his car to go through two complete gears almost to get to max boost. I cant really remember why he said it did that, but thats what he said.

Well I'm not sure how the car used to run because I just got it about a week and a half ago. Ill try having a friend watch the gauge while I hit the gears. But it should be a 6psi instead of 3
